Cinco de Mayo Poetry

A people’s holiday event featuring Mexican Poetry read in Spanish by Liliana Romanowskiand in English by John H. Baillie and featuring new and selected poetry by Winnipeg activist poet Ron Romanowski, author of Incantations from the Republic of Fire.
This event presented as part of Mayworks 2014: Festival of Labour and the Arts.
John H. Baillie is a voice actor, the author of the poetry collection Destination Mutable, and the creator of the Internet all out literary game show Reality Fiction. He also regularly explores the vicissitudes of the writer’s life on his blog.
Liliana Romanowski is a multi-language singer who has studied with Yolanda di Paulo at the University of Manitoba School of Preparatory Studies. Recently she was a soloist with the Viva Italia choir in performance. She was a member of the Prairie Theatre Exchange Adult Cabaret Troupe which perfomred excerpts from The Producers in March. She has been a regular performer at MayWorks for years.
Ron Romanowski’s latest collection of poetry is Incantations from the Republic of Fire in which he continues to experiment with multiple personnas. Lately Ron has been taking courses at the Prairie Theatre Exchange Adult School, and has worked on poetry projects at the Centre for Creative Writing and Oral Culture at the University of Manitoba.
